Regulation in the Netherlands entered the global betting sphere in 2021, attracting countless providers and operators to this emerging landscape, where innovation and opportunity radiated from the core of the betting market.
Having refined its laws and regulations over time, the Netherlands ensures that match-fixing prevention, responsible gaming, and more are upheld by all entities operating within the country. As a result, many operators are seeking sportsbook solutions providers that can help achieve and maintain compliance with Dutch regulatory standards.
For this reason, Altenar, a sportsbook solutions provider, has become the go-to partner for sports betting technologies and regulatory expertise. This article outlines the key requirements operators must meet to succeed in the Netherlands.
Regulation in the Netherlands stipulates that all provisions set forth in the Decree apply to the following areas:
- Remote gambling licensing and operations
- The organization of remote gambling: licensee’s integrity policy, access to remote gambling, management of gambling credits, consumer protection, the gambling system, and inspection of the gambling system
- Compliance supervision and enforcement: reporting and recordkeeping requirements, and a control data base (datasafe) for monitoring purposes
The amended BGA (Betting and Gambling Act) does not introduce a licensing system for B2B service providers. However, B2C operators are subject to extensive outsourcing requirements, meaning that Altenar must be certified to provide its sportsbook in the Netherlands.
