Stanislav Silin, CEO at Altenar, reflects on a successful year for the sportsbook software provider, which saw the company secure key licenses from the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), while also overcoming challenges in Italy and Sweden to launch four regulated clients across both markets.
SBC: What were the key highlights for Altenar in 2019?
SS: Without disclosing specific numbers, I can say that we’ve done very well—reaching and even exceeding our goals for 2019. This year, we obtained both an MGA B2B license in Malta and a UKGC provider license.
We also received several software approvals, including for Italy and Sweden, where we successfully launched four regulated clients—despite both being particularly challenging sports betting markets.
In addition, we’ve just launched our sportsbook product in a retail setting through a partnership with a lottery and betting operator in Jamaica. Our team has worked incredibly hard, and we’re proud of what we’ve achieved.
SBC: You mentioned launching four new regulated clients—how important is it to balance attracting new clients with developing new products for existing ones?
SS: Striking that balance is crucial. While we’re still actively pursuing new business opportunities, we’re also investing heavily in internal projects aimed at helping our current clients grow.
This approach has proven successful in the past—particularly with Wplay.co—and we intend to double down on it. It’s far more rewarding to support the growth of existing clients than to simply chase contractual minimums and constantly seek out new leads.
SBC: As a technology partner, what reputation do you aspire to have among your clients?
SS: We aim to be recognized as a trusted provider of choice for sports betting operators—offering not only flexible, stable, and compliant software, but also maintaining a strict B2B focus. That means we never compete in the B2C space with our clients.
We want to be known as a reliable technology partner—one that delivers consistency in service, adaptability in execution, and software equipped with multiple B2B licenses and regulatory certifications.
