Without a doubt, it’s the wealth and quality of content available through Altenar’s sportsbook solutions. We’re seeing increasing adoption of betting on traditionally popular sports, and it seems the market has finally received what it’s been asking for.
It’s truly exciting to see sports betting bringing people together again in a regulated environment. At Altenar, we’ve wanted to be part of this moment for some time, and it’s incredibly rewarding to contribute to the birth of a new regulated market.
2. Given the unique Dutch land-based heritage across arcades and similar venues – how do you think this shapes a distinct Dutch player profile compared to the UK or Scandinavia?
We currently expect Dutch players to stand out as uniquely distinct. We’ll be collecting data on these player profiles, and while behaviors may evolve after the first few months of regulation, we anticipate a clear distinction between casual and seasoned bettors emerging over time.
We also foresee different types of sports content gaining popularity in the Netherlands that may not be as favored elsewhere. Given the country’s arcade-gaming heritage, there may be a stronger preference for faster-paced betting formats like bet builders or widget-based interfaces.
Only time will tell how this plays out.
3. In terms of regulation, how has the Dutch process compared to other European markets? Has this significantly impacted strategy?
The Netherlands takes a “restricted unless licensed” approach to sports betting, so securing a license there has been a major milestone for Altenar. Like all markets, obtaining that license presented unique challenges, but we adapted the sportsbook as needed to achieve compliance.
Our overall strategy hasn’t changed, but the Netherlands remains an emerging market. What may shift in the next 12 months is uncertain, but as always, Altenar remains flexible and ready to evolve with the market’s direction.

Esports—along with the sports, leagues, and markets that our Bet Builder will support. These fast-growing segments have seen exceptional momentum in recent months, and we expect continued growth as both next-gen gamers and seasoned bettors explore new games, leagues, and offerings.
