As a major force in the gaming industry and with over 500 team members from all over the world, we shed some light on the talented individuals who help Altenar continue to succeed.
In this latest installment we caught up with our Sales Manager Diego Salas who, after nearly five years with Altenar, told us all about why he joined the company, what major developments he expects to see in the future, as well as his love for coffee.
How long have you been a member of the Altenar team, and what made you want to join the company?
I’ll have been with Altenar for five years in January.
What attracted me to the company was that, at the time, it was a startup; with no more than 15 people based in Malta. The company's sportsbook solutions were interesting and the fact they were entering into the Latin American market made it more attractive for me. Not to mention I really liked the offices and the people that I met during my first interactions.
What are your main roles and responsibilities here at Altenar?
As a Sales Manager, my role focuses on identifying and engaging potential clients, building strong relationships, and guiding them through the process of adopting Altenar’s sportsbook solutions. I also collaborate with our partners to ensure seamless integrations and help our clients achieve success.
What do you think makes you good at your job/what you do?
I believe my strong communication skills, industry knowledge, and ability to understand client needs set me apart. I’m passionate about helping businesses grow which makes me effective in my role.
How does your department help the company reach its overall targets and goals?
We drive revenue by bringing in new clients and expanding Altenar’s market presence, ensuring client success and satisfaction.
What are the key skills you need to be a success in your team/department?
Key skills include excellent communication, adaptability, a deep understanding of the sportsbook and betting industry, and the ability to build trust with clients. Moreover, you have to be ready to face a few rejections and still keep smiling.
How do you expect your role in this industry to change and develop in the future?
I see a stronger focus on leveraging AI and data to deliver personalized solutions as the industry grows globally. In addition, building sustainable partnerships will remain key as markets expand globally.
Tell us about your career prior to joining Altenar?
Before joining Altenar, I worked in the banking industry for around 11 years, where I developed strong skills in sales, relationship management, a problem-solving mindset and leadership. This experience built the foundations for my current role and success in the sportsbook solutions and gaming industry.
What’s the one thing you’d love to change about your role/industry?
For the industry, simplified compliance and consistent regulations would be great! This would allow operators and providers to focus more on innovation and create a better user experience.
What did you want to do as a job/career when you were a child?
I wanted to be a chef for cruise ships and travel the world. And to be fair, although my career path turned out differently, I have cooking as my hobby and I travel the world with my job.
Away from work do you have any hidden talents?
Well, I would not say that I have hidden talents, but one of my favourite things is coffee and everything related to it. So I try to be up to date with everything, learning and giving my best with every espresso and perfecting my latte art.
What's your biggest achievement away from your work career?
One of my biggest achievements outside of work is having settled and started from scratch in a country far from my home, with another language. It reminds me of the importance of perseverance and conviction.
